Piezoelectric materials, first identified in 1880 by Jacques and Pierre Curie, have the ability to become electrically charged when deformed under mechanical stress.  Furthermore, a dimensional change of the material may be induced through the application of an electrial field.

Johnson Matthey has been, developing, producing and marketing piezoelectric ceramics, piezo components and piezo modules in accordance with the individual requirements as specified by customers world-wide. Reasearch, development, production, quality control is conducted at our Redwitz ,Germany site (formerly Argillion GmbH).
