Johnson Matthey Introduces Biomed™ 1000 Coiling Wire
Johnson Matthey, known for its forte in metallurgy and alloy development has introduced Biomed™ 1000; Coiling Wire as an alternative to Platinum. Developed specifically for the medical device industry, Biomed™ 1000; is a Palladium-based, radiopaque alloy which contains NO platinum. In addition to a lower per-ounce price, Biomed™ 1000; yields more feet per ounce. The lower material cost, combined with its higher yield makes Biomed™ 1000; an effective, low-cost alternative to the traditional coiling wires.
Biomed™ Series Platinum-substitution Alloy
Low Cost Radiopaque Wire
Our Biomed™ wire, sheet and tubing is designed for medical devicee applications requiring radiopacity. The new alloy uses Palladium and Rhenium to provide high strength radiopaque metal at 80% lower cost than Platinum wire.
The Biomed™ Pd/Re alloy has all the mechanical properties of Platinum 8% Tungsten at a fraction of the cost. Typical uses may include pacemaker throughwires and coiling applications such as guidewire tips and aneurism coils. All alloy compositions are available annealed, as-drawn or as-drawn and stress-relieved.
